

I made my t-shirt in celebration of the bicentennial of Darwin's birth, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of the Origin of Species.
two colors, blue and yellow, makes its message extremely clear and draws the eye to the OOF. I saw this piece by Edward Ruscha at the MOMA in New York, and it really stood out to me. Its message is clear and the piece grabs your attention.
I really like drawing DNA for some strange reason - something about the shape, so I drew the DNA by hand and scanned it in, then equalized the contrast so the different parts didn't look different colors (I drew it on a big sheet of paper, so I h
ad to scan it in in segments). Then, I figured out the text and decided to put colors on the t-shirt. I really like the design's simplicity, but I think the colors add a pop of life. I made the bottom of the DNA a bit blurred, to emphasize the point that we're coming from somewhere foggy, and heading towards what will become a clear-cut future. I wanted to emphasize the element of time in natural selection, and the way that it has affected us and will affect our future. And DNA is one of its key tools.
