19 - Neel Odedara - What is Art?

In its most essential form - art is expression. I like this definition because it means that art can be anything - it can be magnificent or it can be terrible, it can be public or it can be private. Art is any form or action that serves as an outlet for one's creative energy. In this way, art can literally be anything. This is important because I believe art is more for the artist than the it is the viewer. Art is created out of a personal need on the part of the artist. Emily Dickinson wrote the majority of her poems in private, and many were published after her death by close friends. Does the fact that much of her art was private make her any less of an artist? No, because art is personal expression.
For my example of art, please see the 3d street graffiti. This was not art created for a museum - it is the work of an artist creatively expressing his view of the world.
