Art is creation. Everything has been created from something or from someone. The minute someone calls it art, that is what it is. When someone reflects upon it, is moved by it, inspired, and labels it as art, it is, whether or not there is consensus. It takes at least one to create it and only one to call it art.
Art is another form of expression, another form of communication. If objects are in a gallery, we call them art. If movement is performed on a stage we call it dance. If interactions take place on a stage we call it theater. What does that say about everyday objects like the computer you are using right now? The way you raced, nearly running, to that class you were late for? And that interaction you just had with your friend? Are these things art? They are not in a gallery or on a stage. They are not placed on display. Perhaps art must be captured life. Once a person takes a step back to look at something a second time, in a different way, from a new perspective, searching for its meaning...then it is art?
I included two photos of my brother. He is eating a banana with peanut butter. It's his favorite thing. I witnessed this event. The pure bliss of his first bite. A perfect balance of ripe banana and smooth Teddy peanut butter. Then, moments later, after another bite, he realizes the banana had a rotten bit. This was captured on camera. It is now art. But was it not art when I witnessed it?
