Brielle - Owning Art and Originality

I think the idea of "ownership" or "who created this piece of art" is extremely complicated and controversial. Technology has especially made this debate more pronounced because now art can be replicated and mass produced. But I don't think that the reporduction of art necesarily undermines its beauty or its authenticity. Just because more people can display a piece of art in their homes doesn't mean that the art is not as good as it was. I think that photography also poses a lot of questions about what origniallity means. Because photos are created using a camera, a tool that has the ability to function so much by itself, the question of "who took the photograph" and thus "whose photo is it?" becomes problematic. If you set up the composition of the photo but aren't the one to press and relase the shuter button, is it still your photo? Similarily, if you take the photo but aren't the one to develop or print it, is it yours? This is a photo by photographer Anne Hamilton. I chose to upload it because it was created using digital alteration.
