I chose Van Gogh's
Olive Trees With Yellow Sky and Sun for this weeks blog post. Originality is a very unimportant factor in art for me personally, and partly that's why I chose this image. The art that I tend to appreciate, and the art that means anything to me; whether it's a painting, a photograph, a piece of architecture, or a written work- is the art that evokes emotion in me. When I look at the painting above it reminds me of my summers in the south of France as a child, and that memory and emotion wouldn't change for me whether it's Van Gogh that painted it or a recreation of the original by another artist. We wouldn't say that Kurt Vonnegut's writing isn't original or meaningful because he takes strong influences from Mark Twain. Why would we hold visual art to any other standard?
