Antonio del Pollaiuolo (or Pollaiolo...I couldn't seem to find a consensus on a spelling) painted Hercules and the Hydra circa 1475. Its use of space and perspective is interesting because of its slightly surreal quality -- though Hercules looks human, the use of three-dimensional sheds insight onto his form. The rivers taper off toward the horizon, suggesting distance and depth, but do not grow as large in the foreground as one would expect. Thus, our sense of depth indicates the rivers are miniscule compared to him and the hydra, showing that Hercules is no mere mortal, but something more powerful and much more gigantic.
