This painting is called Suleyman the Magnificent as a young man; it is by Nakkaş Osman, who was the chief miniaturist for the Ottoman Empire during the latter half of the sixteenth century. It is a portrait of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1520 to 1566; this was painted in 1579. I picked it because I am all about how Osman creates fields of color by using small, intricate patterns - I think Suleiman's clothing and the background of this image are absolutely exquisite.
I also really like his illustration of the Siege of Vienna.
