Olivia - Original Art

I think the value of an original work of art lies in the thought that the artist was, at some point, in contact with the piece you are looking at.  It allows a more intimate experience between the artist's intentions and the viewer's experience.

That being said, copies hold their own value.  Mainly, as exemplified in Rubens' painting that we discussed last class, copies allow viewers to more deeply analyze both the original artist and the imitator's intentions.  While it is possible to discuss a painting on its own, I found it very interesting to compare and contrast.

This video shows a man making a collage from pieces of the bible, time lapsed.  It applies because it is very original, and any reproduction (including this video) probably doesn't do it justice.
