Sofia - 16th Century Art

I think that this painting of Adam and Eve, painted by Lucas Cranach at the beginning of the 16th century, struck me particularly because of the volume I felt was created in the bodies of Adam and Eve - something we were striving for on Thursday. The lines that create both of their bodies are very different - Eve's are curvy and full - line strength is played with, creating shadows and placing emphasis -, giving a sensuous impression, whereas Adam's lines are much more straight and give a clean-cut impression. I like the way they are framed by the plants behind and around them, and I feel that the creation of two separate paintings emphasizes their different genders, and the differences between them - although the colors are similar in both paintings, the impression that each one gives is very different.
