I copied the The Great Wave off Kanagawa. In my copy, I wanted to focus on the just the lines so that I could understand the composition of the print better. I noticed that without color, it is a lot harder to distinguish the boats from the water. I think this was part of the artists goal though, to blend man in nature. Also, without color, I noticed more clearly that the wave/hump in the foreground mimics the mountain in the background, and that the cloud in the background mimics the wave about to crash in the foreground.
Now that I have a copy without color, I'm thinking about photocopying it and experimenting with different colors and mediums.
