Henry - Albrecht Durer

Albrecht Durer was an artist during the German Renaissance who was famous for his wood-block prints. I chose the "Flagelation" (passions of christ) print because my art history teacher from high school had an original (about 500 were printed) and he brought it into class for us to see. Its hard to see in this jpeg, but I was amazed at the level of detail Durer was able to achieve. I like how Durer creates contrast in his image by making the background darker and the foreground lighter by varying his use of hatching. Along the edges of the figures, the background has more hatches to create a darker color, which makes the figure contrast and pop out of the image.
