"Calling of Saint Matthew," Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (Italian). 1599-1600
I like this piece because I think the values of light and dark are really strong. The contrast of the light entering the room from a hidden source highlight the faces and bodies of the subjects in a way that is intriguing and curious. I think the composition and lighting highlight draw the viewer's eye to the guy on the left, who I assume is Mathew. So many elements of the piece work together to achieve its effect.
